A day in the life of Kimball

This is a Jersey cow

This is the milking barn. Two guys milk together. It takes about 7 hours to milk all the cows (twice a day). Luckily, Kimball only works once a day, but some of the guys he works with do double shifts!!

Kimball deserves a post for multiple reasons, but mainly because he is winning the bread day in and day out by milking cows. He has really enjoyed learning about dairy farming through the Utah State Dairy Management program. He landed a pretty good job at a dairy in Benson, which is west of Logan. Most importantly, he has learned why he is glad he got an education so that come spring he will no longer be milking, but will help manage a dairy. Yay!! Thanks for working, Kimball. And thanks to everyone for buying milk to help out the dairy farmers.

A Bad Sign...

When we first moved to Logan, I noticed something very peculiar about the fire hydrants. They all have tall metal wires sticking out of them. For what reason? At first I thought, that is kind of odd. Then I realized that the snow drifts can stay so tall in the winter for so long that the firemen wouldn't know where the fire hydrants are. Although I enjoy snow, I am not looking forward to the cold, cold winter ahead.

38 Week Ultrasound

Today was fun (probably like a few hundred dollars fun) because we got to see the little guy again on ultrasound! Yesterday at my appointment, I measured smaller than average, which I have been doing for about a month now. For those of you who have seen me and said, "you are so tiny," it is because I really am smaller than average. They predict the baby will be about 6 pounds at delivery. I'm not quite sure why this little guy wants to be so small, but Kimball has convinced me that it is better to have a small baby for a first delivery.

Everything looked good on the ultrasound. He is moving a lot and does not appear to be distressed. My amniotic fluid levels are on the low side of normal, which could be contributing to why I am so small. As long as I continue to feel the baby move, then I am good to go. So I guess that is good news.

In just a couple weeks we'll get to see if the doctor's guesses are correct regarding junior's size!!

37 Weeks

Today marks the 37 week point of pregnancy (aka: the most uncomfortable I have ever been in my whole life). No, it's actually not too bad, but the baby is now sitting very low so my movements have become less graceful and flexible. Only 3 more weeks and I have a lot of emotions going through my mind about now.

Kimball is going to be a dad and I will be a mom in a very short time! This has come at a wonderful time of our lives for us. It is amazing that something I have dreamt of for a very long time (my whole life) is coming true. Ever since I was a little girl, I instinctively knew that when I grew up I would be a mommy too.

I have LOVED working as a nurse and will deeply miss my time spent at the hospital. Nursing is a profession that really makes you feel good about yourself because you help someone every day. There are bad days, good days, traumatic days, heart-wrenching days, uplifting days, draining days, sad days, and excellent days. I assume this will be very similar to raising kids. As much as I have enjoyed my job, I don't think anything can replace being a mother. Yay!! I am excited for this new adventure.

Bear Lake

On Saturday, we enjoyed a day trip to beautiful Bear Lake: behold for yourself! Logan Canyon is gorgeous at this time of year, so we had a nice drive up to the lake. We had a fun time eating the famous raspberry shakes, wading in the water, and relaxing on the beach.

We love Zucchini

Kimball's aunt Janice gave us a few huge zucchinis from her garden this fall, so I thought I would take advantage of having so much of this blessed vegetable by turning it into something sweet: chocolate zucchini cake! Kimball loved it and so did our neighbors!

BYU Football

What a wonderful game on Saturday night! We LOVED it, mostly because we were pleasantly surprised with BYU's performance. Hopefully this is not a fluke to how their season really will be. Sam Bradford's facial expression was classic when he looked up at the Jumbo Tron after his team missed their field goal. Ha! We got a good laugh out of that. Watching BYU football makes me miss BYU. Being in Logan is great, don't get me wrong. It's just not Provo or BYU!! We did get Aggie icecream the other night, but it's not close to what the creamery on 9th is like. :) What good memories we have!
